ROC: The Revolutionary Compact Cycle Pump

Innovative Design for Quick and Easy Tire Inflation

Pumped Ltd, founded by Gareth Bristow and Philip Pike, introduces the ROC pump, a compact hand pump that revolutionizes the way we inflate cycle tires. With its unique mechanical design, the ROC pump delivers faster inflation times and improved ergonomics, making it a game-changer for cycling enthusiasts.

Pumped Ltd was established in 2012 with the aim of harnessing the mechanical advantages of an innovative patented device created by Gareth Bristow. This device converts a single rotary action into multiple linear movements, making it ideal for air and fluid displacement. Recognizing the potential for highly efficient and compact pumps in various markets, Gareth and Philip decided to focus their initial efforts on the leisure market, specifically targeting the cycling industry.

As avid cyclists themselves, Philip and Gareth understood the time and effort required to inflate a cycle tire, even with the best hand pumps available. Existing small pumps on the market typically require multiple pumping actions to achieve just 1 psi of pressure, with some requiring as many as 20 or more actions. Inflating a mountain bike tire to the recommended pressure of 50 psi can be a time-consuming and laborious task.

With this in mind, Gareth set out to design a range of compact hand pumps that would not only be smaller in size but also deliver significantly more air volume per stroke compared to existing mini pump designs. The result is the ROC pump, which boasts at least twice the air volume displacement of the current best mini pump on the market. This translates to significantly shorter inflation times, allowing cyclists to spend less time fixing punctures and more time enjoying their ride.

The ROC pump's innovative features include an ultra-compact rotary design that produces a large volume of pumped air. This not only speeds up inflation times but also improves ergonomics, making tire inflation easier and reducing the risk of breaking valve stems. The pump's cosmetic prototype and working model of the internal mechanism have already been produced, and a fully functional prototype is currently being manufactured for rigorous testing against expected specifications.

The ROC Ultra Compact hand pump measures 172mm x 38mm x 25.4mm when closed and 200mm x 160mm x 25.4mm when open. It weighs 190 grams and offers a volume displacement of 68,000mm3 for the one-way version and 128,000mm3 for the two-way version. The pump can handle a pressure range of 5 to 130 psi, catering to a wide range of cycling needs.

The ROC pump has garnered recognition for its exceptional design and engineering. In 2013, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Product Engineering and Technical Design category. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, evoking positive emotions and wonder.

The ROC pump is set to revolutionize the way cyclists inflate their tires, offering a compact and efficient solution that saves time and effort. With its unique mechanical design and impressive performance, the ROC pump is a must-have accessory for any cycling enthusiast.
